Gunnagit is a dead simple mobile app that syncs with Bluetooth-enabled gym equipment to help people that want a no-fuss way to get in better shape. By automatically tracking what you’ve done in past workouts and by taking into account your individual characteristics / goal, each time you go to the gym, Gunnagit knows exactly which exercises you need to do with the optimal weight and number of repetitions.
Goal
Unload all of the cognitive burden associated with thinking about what you’re going to do once you get the gym so that there is one less major reason to not go. Once at the gym, be as productive as possible without ever needing to take your phone out of your armband.
Show stopper pre-requisite
This app assumes that we live in a world where there are Bluetooth enabled weight lifting machines that transmit weight lifted (lbs), reps, machine settings / adjustments.
Experience description
The key for this app is to relentlessly focus what makes it special (syncing with devices). I cut out as many distractions as possible for simplicity's sake:

The key for this app is to relentlessly focus what makes it special (syncing with devices). I cut out as many distractions as possible for simplicity's sake:
- It doesn’t ask you to choose between tons of options (you get one personalized recommendation at a time)
- It’s not social (no sharing, leaderboards or groups)
- You don’t plan out your workouts
- You don’t need to know how much time you want to spend at the gym
- It doesn’t do cardio or stretching or yoga or plyometrics or free weights yet (just weight lifting machines)

Find an exercise
Swipe through cards, forwards or backwards. Ultra quick access to search for flexibility. The video auto plays on loop (no volume, no longer than 10 seconds). If you start two exercises between sets, then the one further back in the queue should be pulled up to right behind the front-most one. You can only go backwards as far as the first recommendation for the current session (day). |
For ease of use, you'll stay checked into a machine until you leave the exercise (you can come back to this view if needed). Also considered "bumping" some surface on the machine as a way of selecting a machine, but seemed potentially more complicated / confusing. Instead, each machine should have a "name" that it is clearly visible on the machine itself. |
Exercise overview
Warning indicator ...when a user can proceed but they would be doing so in spite of our recommendation. One of the benefits of syncing with machines is that we can give them these sort of alerts. We also want to clearly indicate when a set has been completed and whether the recommendations were met (emoticon). |
Unable to proceed with set. It should be clear to the user that they need to do something before they can proceed. We need to nail the interaction between multiple people using the same machines and trading off sets. While multiple people can be checked into the same machine at once, only one person can be in a set on any given machine at the same time. |
